"SLEEP TALK:
A Breakthrough Technique for Helping Your
Child Cope with Stress and Thrive Through Difficult Transitions"
"SLEEP TALK"
is a breakthrough technique to help children effectively
deal with various age-specific issues, allowing parents
to help children through difficult times. The "SLEEP
TALK" scripts affirm positive behavior
while a child is asleep.
Published by NTCI Contemporary Publishing Company Group
as its lead fall title (September, 1999, $21.95), "SLEEP
TALK: A Breakthrough Technique for Helping Your
Child Cope With Stress and Thrive Through Difficult Transitions",
provides parents and other caregivers with an innovative
way to help children, and adults, through difficult and
stressful times.
Registered pediatric nurse, Lois Haddad, R.N., developed
the "SLEEP TALK"
technique as she cared for chronically ill children
on the Pediatric Floor of U. C. L. A. Hospital in Los Angeles,
CA. She uttered positive messages to her young patients
as they were sleeping and found the children responded well
to her nightly talk, which helped them on their road to
recovery.
This innovative practice can be applied to a myriad of
child problems, from night waking, thumb sucking and health
issues, to school phobia and getting along with others.
Lois Haddad explains in simple terms how "SLEEP
TALK" works and why it works. Included
in the book are dozens of sample scripts, which may be used
by parents as is, or adapted to fit each child's sit"SLEEP
TALK" to address their children's
problems, and bear witness to its effectiveness.
In addition to nursing, Lois Haddad, R.N., is an accomplished
teacher and lecturer. She has taught relaxation, stress
management, visualization and healing workshops in schools,
companies and medical clinics for over 20 years. Her SLEEP
TALK classes and consultations guide parents
with stressful areas in their children's lives.
Haddad suggests that parents continue "SLEEP
TALK" after any problem has been
conquered, to maintain a stream of love and support. The
practice, she says, is "mutually beneficial for parents
and children. For adults, it provides a chance to release
negativity and reinforce the love and pride for the child.
For children, it is an effective low stress way to modify
behavior and personality traits."
